Tempe HVAC Service Contractor replaces AC unit stolen from Mesa foster care program

Gas prices and Valley graduations are stories you expect to see in the in
the paper. Mathew Blades of MIX 96.9’s morning show was shocked to find a
headline reading “Mesa foster kids program gets air conditioning unit
stolen” on azcentral.com. According to the article, “thieves apparently
hopped an iron fence over the weekend to steal the air conditioning unit at
Helen's Hope Chest, the Mesa United Way's program for foster children.”

Blades said, “I hate stories like this, I mean how are you going to steal
from people that are just trying to help out those less fortunate?

Out of frustration, Blades took it to the airwaves, “how can someone steal
from charity?” Within minutes the MIX 96.9 phone lines lit up with offers

Oldest Cooling and Heating System Contest

Air Conditioning is not a new concept!

Did you know that the concept of air conditioning was known to have been applied in Ancient Rome, where aqueduct water was circulated through the walls of certain houses for cooling? Similar techniques in medieval Persia involved the use of cisterns and wind towers to cool buildings during the hot season. Modern air conditioning emerged from advances in technology during the 19th century, and the first large scale electrical air conditioning was invented in 1902 by Willis Haviland Carrier. He was asked to find a way to remove moisture in the air inside a New York printing plant. Because paper absorbs the moisture from the air, the printers would complain that the colors would not print right when the air was humid. Carrier stood at a railroad station one foggy day and realized that fog was just water concentrated in the air. He also knew that if the air was cooled, the water would condense out of the air. So, he designed a machine that cooled the air as it entered the plant and collected the condensed water inside the machine instead of inside the plant. So, the first air conditioning system was actually invented not to cool air but to dry it, the cooling effect was just a bonus!

The history of heating goes back even farther than air conditioning!

From the time of cavemen using open fire pits through the first 100 years of home heating, wood was burned in brick fireplaces, and invented in 1742, the cast iron Franklin Stove. Not until 1885 would coal begin to be used more than wood. At the end of the 19th century, low-cost, cast iron radiators were invented and brought central heating into homes, using a coal-fired boiler in the basement which delivered hot water or steam to radiators in every room. Around this same time, Dave Lennox built and marketed the first riveted steel coal furnace. These early furnaces used natural convection (hot air rising) via ducts from the basement furnace to heat the rooms above. These were the two main methods of home central heating until 1935, when the first forced air furnace was invented. It used coal as a heat source with an electric fan to distribute the heated air via ductwork throughout the home. Soon thereafter, gas and oil fired versions came about to relieve homeowners from the chore of “stoking the coal fire” and relegated coal furnaces and cast iron radiators into the dust bin of history. Today, around 60% of homes are heated with gas-fired forced air furnaces, and 9% with oil fired furnaces. In warmer climates, 25% of homes are heated by forced air furnaces using electric “heat pumps” to supply both heating and cooling energy!

Orangutan Home Services Makes Generous Donation to Phoenix Zoo as Part of Capital Campaign to Create a World Class Zoo

Orangutan Home Services, will be generously donating a portion of their profits to help support the Phoenix Zoo’s construction of Orang-Hutan: “People of the Forest” habitat.

The donation of $500,000 will be used to continue the construction of the new habitat for the Zoo’s family of four orangutans; Duchess, Bess, Michael and Kasih. The exhibit will allow 5 times more space outdoors and nearly 15 times more space indoors than the previous exhibit. The new facility includes two indoor climate controlled habitats and two large outdoor habitats with sway poles, ropes and plenty of climbing structures for the orangutans to enjoy.

“We are extremely grateful and excited about this generous donation from Orangutan Home Services,” says Bert Castro, CEO and President of the Phoenix Zoo. “This exhibit is the largest single undertaking in the history of the Zoo and their donation helps us to provide a state of the art habitat for our beloved family of orangutans. We consider Orangutan Home Services a tremendous supporter of the Zoo and are thrilled they are embarking on this historic project with us.”

With modern amenities and a larger area to explore, the Zoo will have the opportunity to add more orangutans in the future. Orang-Hutan: “People of the Forest” will open in April 2011.

Do you know what these companies are doing with your A/C units?

Well there are some technicians called the "run cap bandits". When replacing your run cap they just install it as fast as they can and do a unprofessional job. They leave the old run cap still in your A/C unit and rig the new one with zip-ties or tape. This is very dangerous it can start fires or do more damage to your AC unit.
